Note: If Auto-resume is turned off in the Gaia GPS settings and a download gets interrupted for any reason (like navigating away from the app), the map download will not resume automatically.
1. Tap the Saved icon and change the filter in the top right to Maps.
2. If the map title is black, the download is complete. If the map title is grey, the download is not complete.
3. To complete the download, tap on the map then you will see the option to 'Resume Download.' If the download is complete, you won't see a 'Resume Download' option.
Complete | Incomplete |
4. Tap 'Resume Download' and follow the progress of your download on the Downloads page.
Common Questions and Troubleshooting
Testing offline downloads by putting your device in airplane mode
Putting your device in airplane mode is not a foolproof way of testing your offline downloads due to how the app caches map tiles. Tiles are the individual images that compose a digital map. When you are online, the app caches commonly viewed tiles to make the map load faster. Cached tiles display while offline. When you put your phone in airplane mode, you won't be able to tell if you are looking at cached or downloaded tiles. The cached tiles are cleared out periodically, so make sure you check your downloads with the steps above.

I wish all of the Gaia GPS Help articles would specify what Hardware Platform and Application Version the article referredd to.
I'm new to Gaia GPS -- and love the product -- but more often than not the screens and instructions I'm reading about in these Help articles don't track very closely with what I'm seeing on my iPhone app. This would be cleared up if the article specified hardware application and application version number the author was using.
For example, this article says to "Clear Automatic Map Cache" in the STORAGE section of the Gaia GPS Settings. Unless I'm going crazy, this option doesn't exist on my app.
I'm using Version 1.6.1 of the iPhone app, so I have to assume you're using some other platform than Gaia GPS for iPhone.
Hi John,
Sorry for the confusion. Check out my answer to your other post to see how to identify which version of the Help Center you are viewing: https://help.gaiagps.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003524727/comments/360000383774.
Also, here is the link on how to verify offline map in the iOS version of Gaia GPS: https://help.gaiagps.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003523707-Verify-Map-Download-Completed.
When I want to know if I have a map already downloaded, where do I go? (It seems as if downloaded/named maps were listed in older versions). I tried "Saved Downloads" and the most recent download is listed, but the list clears if I exit the app. Saved Downloads says navigate to "the saved maps screen" .... Where is the "the saved maps screen"

Sorry for the confusion. You can view saved maps by filtering the Saved menu to display maps:
