If you prefer to limit access to your information, here are the ways you can opt-out of tracking and data collection and still use Gaia GPS to its fullest.
Once you have accepted the privacy modal, your default setting will be PUBLIC. The privacy of your previously recorded tracks will retain their prior privacy settings but any new tracks will revert to public unless you change your privacy settings.

Change your default privacy settings
- On iOS: Settings > Account > Privacy and Default Visibility
- On Android: Settings > Account > Privacy Controls
- On web: Visit your Profile page > Edit Outside Profile > Manage Privacy Settings
Make sure your default sharing setting is 'Private' (iOS)
- Sharing settings in the iOS app
- Sharing settings are always private by default on Android
- You can also change the public/private status of individual items from the web like this
Disable analytics

Visit your Settings page on the web
- disable Web and Discover analytics
- disable Web and Discover analytics

In the app:
- iOS: Settings > Other > toggle Disable Analytics

Android: Settings > Account > toggle Disable Analytics
- Please note, this will significantly limit how well the Support team is able to assist you, should you request customer support.
If you’re concerned about background location tracking
- On iOS: Open the Settings app > Gaia GPS > Location > While Using

On Android: Open the Settings app > Applications > Gaia GPS > Permissions > toggle on "Location".
- If you are running version 2020.11 of the app or newer, set the location permission for Gaia GPS to Allow only while using the app

Earlier versions of the app require the location permissions to be set to Allow all the time.
