Many of the maps listed above are available for the entire world. Some of these include Gaia Topo, OpenHikingMap HD, HikeBike.de, and many more.

Hi! I just purchased GAIA GPS and I plan to use it for hiking in the Adirondack Mtns in NY. The available maps lack the majority of NY State official trails or the existing are out of date. Are there maps available either through GAIA, or somewhere else to download or use that would fulfill my need? Thanks!

Yes, you can download Gaia GPS for free (Android/iOS) to all of your devices; then log in with your Gaia GPS account on each device to access your membership.
I'm a legacy account using the android app and recently had to reinstall the app. I'm no longer able to access OpenHikingMap HD and many layers are greyed out. What gives?

Thanks for posting and I apologize for the confusion.
The OpenHikingMap HD layer has been renamed as Outdoor at the request of the publisher and can be found within the Topo Maps section of the Layers menu.
I have also updated this article to reflect the name changes.

I have been using GaiaGPS regularly for hiking for a few years. I live in the state of New South Wales in Australia. I have just noticed you now include "New South Wales Topo" as one of your Map Sources. This is a fantastic free addition!
I notice this is not included in the full inventory of maps available in this topic on gaiagps.com . It would be worthwhile to include this on the website for your Australian users to be aware.
I now no longer have to use Avenza for georeferenced pdf topos of my home state, where I do most of my hiking. Thanks Gaia!

How often are satellite maps updated? I’m finding the maps for New Hampshire & Maine pretty old. Same goes for private land map layers... not accurate with current land owners....

The publishers of the various satellite layers don't have a set schedule for updating areas but instead, update areas as new imagery tiles become available.
However, if you will click “Submit a Request” above and include coordinates of the area along with the name of the map source; we can report this to the publisher.
The US Private Land overlay is updated quarterly and please also include the coordinates for the areas where your noticed issues with the landowner details.
Thanks Nathan, much appreciated. As for including "coordinates", what specifically is required beyond "New Hampshire" and "Maine". Do I need to provide exact Lon/Lat coordinates for both states?
I just want to submit as complete a request as possible so a little more guidance here is appreciated.

Is the Snowfall Forecast Overlay available for Android phones? I don't see this overlay in any of the Map Source Categories. Thank you for any information.

Currently, the Snowfall Forecast Overlay is available on gaiagps.com and the iOS app. We are working on a big under the hood improvement that will allow us to add map sources like this one to the Android app in the future.
Confirm that the NEW much talked about Vector map is ONLY available in IOS?
If that is accurate is there an ETA for it to arrive in Android?
What extent is South America covered in premium? In particular Patagonia?

Currently, vector-based map sources are just available in the iOS version of Gaia GPS, however, we are working on an update to the Android app to which will lay the groundwork for accessing vector-based map sources on Android devices. Unfortunately, I don't have an ETA at this time.

Most of the map sources include worldwide coverage.
Here is an example of the recently released Satellite Topo layer just south of Salto Chico Falls within Torres del Paine National Park.

Is there a map available for public/private land in Norway?

Thanks for posting - I can definitely see the benefit of adding these public/private land maps for Norway. Currently, these maps are not available in Gaia GPS and I have opened an internal feature request to look into adding them.
I recently decided to try OpenStreetMap...from the Gaia web page
"Worldwide open-data road maps (cannot be downloaded for offline use, use other OSM-based sources for download)."
About 20 km from home, I ran out of map. I have my phone data turned off, and didn't realize that there was a limited map installed. I was able to download all of New England to my GPS as one OSM file, and expected that here, too.
So I got onto wi-fi and tried to download some tiles. No joy.
When I got home, I looked up the maps here. On my phone, OSM doesn't show as downloaded. The note above, from the website, says "cannot be downloaded for offline use, use other OSM-based".
So what good is OSM? I certainly don't intend to roam the countryside downloading MB of OSM maps on my data plan. What are the other altermatives? I also use OpenCycleMap HD...is that my goto?
My view of things is that the current trend for most app developers is to waste phone bandwidth, as if there is no cost. At least here, I can download for offline use, but I think that there should be a significant web page devoted to how to do that well. I am now faced with 'experimenting' (read: wasting time learning by discovery what someone else already knows) to find the best way to manage each map resource so that I don't look at my phone and see a field of grey.

I'm sorry for the trouble - OpenStreetMap is the only map in Gaia GPS that is not available to download for offline use. There are a few map sources that use OSM data that are available to download including:
- Gaia Topo
- Outdoors map
- OpenClycleMap
- Landscape map
My personal go-to is Gaia Topo, but for cycling, OpenCycleMap is probably best. Gaia Topo has the benefit of being smaller to download though, so you can get bigger areas and use less storage space on your phone.
