There isn't a "best" device to use with Gaia GPS - many users have success with both Apple and Android devices.
But here are a few things to consider when looking for a new device:
- Make sure that the device has a built-in GPS and compass. Most phones have them these days, but not all tablets do.
- Ensure it runs either: iOS 14 or higher, or Android 7 or higher
- At least 1 GB of RAM is recommended, as recording tracks can use up a bit of memory. 2 GB or even 4 GB is even better.
- Users have recommended getting a device with at least 32GB of internal storage to download maps for offline use.
Please note: 'WiFi only' iPads do not have a built-in GPS chip and require an external GPS unit in order to track location when not connected to the internet. Consider purchasing a WiFi + Cellular iPad instead as it has the required GPS chip.
