The Home feed tab in the Gaia GPS app is a place to connect with others, read inspiring content, and share your adventures and activities. You can view content from Outside brands, such as Backpacker or SKI magazine, see ridelogs and trail reports from Trailforks users, and share your tracks on Gaia GPS.
Through the feed, you can build your outside community by discovering and following other users and brands in the Outside ecosystem.
What will stay the same?
All of the Gaia GPS features will remain the same. The Home tab is a separate additional feature that will allow Gaia GPS to share tracks publicly via an activity feed, connected with the larger Outside ecosystem.
Gaia GPS will remain as a tool to help guide your adventures in the outdoors. You can access all Gaia GPS features and record tracks via the main Map tab on the Gaia GPS app. You can also still access your Saved items under the 'Saved Items' folder.
The search function to find trails and features will be moved to the right-hand side, under the magnifying glass icon, and will operate similarly as before.
What will change?
Importantly, we are releasing the ability for users to find and follow friends, and you will have the ability to share your tracks to the Outside feed. You can always delete any activity posts that you publish to the feed, and you can change the visibility of your tracks and posts individually to allow for privacy.
You can view how to manage your privacy settings here.
When will the feed load?
If you are online and logged in, you will see new content appear in the Home tab. You can navigate away from the Home tab to the Mapping tab and other Gaia GPS features via the menu at the bottom of the app.
Will the feed load if I am offline?
If you are offline and using Gaia GPS to navigate in the backcountry, the feed will not load, and you will receive an error message when trying to access the Home tab. You should be able to see your 'Saved' items and utilize the maps as you would typically when offline and using Gaia GPS.
What other features have been rolled out with the Home feed?
We have built in the ability to connect an external device (such as a Garmin Watch), which will populate a track to your 'Saved' items. For more information on connecting a device and publishing to the feed, please see this article.
You will also have the ability to view your Outside profile (separate from your Gaia GPS profile on gaiagps.com), manage your notifications, and view your followers and users that you are following through the Home tab.
