It's easy to use Gaia GPS on multiple devices.
And backing up your data to the web allows you to sync tracks, routes, waypoints, and maps between devices. By default, you will have all of your data on all of your devices.
But what if you don't want all of your maps on your phone?
Or what if you have limited space on your tablet so you only want one or two maps, but not all, saved to that device?
Let's talk about the Auto-Resume feature.
Auto-Resume
One of the options in the Map Downloads section of the Settings menu is “Auto-Resume”. This is enabled by default. With it on, the app will check for incomplete downloads at launch, and resume them.
But a handy, secondary, benefit of this setting becomes clear once you disable auto-resume.
iOS: Open Gaia GPS > Settings > Map Downloads > toggle "auto-resume" to OFF
Android: Open Gaia GPS > Settings > Performance > Map Downloads > toggle "auto-resume" to OFF
Auto-resume is disabled
This stops all maps from syncing to this device. Your other data will still sync automatically as usual.
Now, you have control over which maps are downloaded to this device.
You can now manually select individual maps to download.
Note: Auto-Resume is a device-specific feature. You must disable it on each device.
Manually select maps to download
Open your Saved menu and filter for Maps. All your maps (after a sync) should be listed here, but they're greyed out. This indicates they have not been downloaded to this device.
Select the drop-down arrow next to a map, then choose "Resume Download".
You will have just that map downloaded to your device.
