    Hi Ginny,

France IGN maps are available with a Premium Membership! Here's a blog post we wrote about that map: http://blog.gaiagps.com/france-ign-topo-maps-return-gaia-gps/

    Hi
I’m interested in getting maps for Japan. Are they pre loaded? Otherwise how would I go about getting these installed?

Many of the maps listed above are available for the entire world. Some of these include Gaia Topo, OpenHikingMap HD, HikeBike.de, and many more.

Once you download the app, you can add more map sources from the Edit layers menu. Here's how: https://help.gaiagps.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003640128-Add-and-Manage-Map-Sources

Hi! I just purchased GAIA GPS and I plan to use it for hiking in the Adirondack Mtns in NY. The available maps lack the majority of NY State official trails or the existing are out of date. Are there maps available either through GAIA, or somewhere else to download or use that would fulfill my need? Thanks!

Depending on the exact location you'll be hiking, here are a few of my top recommendations:

    • Gaia Topo
    • OpenHikingMap HD
    • USFS 2016
    • USFS Classic
    • USGS Topo

Yes, you can download Gaia GPS for free (Android/iOS) to all of your devices; then log in with your Gaia GPS account on each device to access your membership.

I'm a legacy account using the android app and recently had to reinstall the app. I'm no longer able to access OpenHikingMap HD and many layers are greyed out. What gives?

Thanks for posting and I apologize for the confusion.

The OpenHikingMap HD layer has been renamed as Outdoor at the request of the publisher and can be found within the Topo Maps section of the Layers menu.

I have also updated this article to reflect the name changes.

If you continue to have trouble accessing map sources please click the 'Submit Request/ button above and we can troubleshoot.

I have been using GaiaGPS regularly for hiking for a few years. I live in the state of New South Wales in Australia. I have just noticed you now include "New South Wales Topo" as one of your Map Sources. This is a fantastic free addition!

I notice this is not included in the full inventory of maps available in this topic on gaiagps.com . It would be worthwhile to include this on the website for your Australian users to be aware.

I now no longer have to use Avenza for georeferenced pdf topos of my home state, where I do most of my hiking. Thanks Gaia!

Thanks for posting and I'm glad you are enjoying the New South Wales Topo layer. I have updated this article to include the new Australia map sources that are now available in the app and on gaiagps.com.

How often are satellite maps updated? I’m finding the maps for New Hampshire & Maine pretty old. Same goes for private land map layers... not accurate with current land owners....

    @morin.shawn
The publishers of the various satellite layers don't have a set schedule for updating areas but instead, update areas as new imagery tiles become available.

However, if you will click “Submit a Request” above and include coordinates of the area along with the name of the map source; we can report this to the publisher.

The US Private Land overlay is updated quarterly and please also include the coordinates for the areas where your noticed issues with the landowner details.

Thanks Nathan, much appreciated. As for including "coordinates", what specifically is required beyond "New Hampshire" and "Maine". Do I need to provide exact Lon/Lat coordinates for both states?

I just want to submit as complete a request as possible so a little more guidance here is appreciated.

    Best,

    Shawn

Yes, the exact coordinates of the areas is helpful so we can report the correct area.

For future reference, everyone can report satellite imagery issues for the Mapbox and ESRI map sources by following these links:
