This article will show you how to change the privacy setting of your data from gaiagps.com. Public data can be viewed by other Gaia GPS users. Private data can only be viewed by you and the people you share it with. To set the default privacy of your tracks and data, please see this article on privacy & data controls.
Change Privacy Setting from the Main Map
You can make your Tracks, Routes, Waypoints, or Folders public or private from the main map. Here's how:
1. Log into your account on gaiagps.com and click the saved folder icon in the map control sidebar to open the saved data sidebar. Then click on the item for which you'd like to change the privacy.
2. If viewing a Route, Waypoint, Area, or Folder, toggle Public Sharing ON to make your data public and visible to all Gaia GPS users, or toggle it OFF so that your data is only visible to you.
- If viewing a Track, scroll down in the details sidebar and change the visibility settings by clicking the Public Sharing drop-down menu. You can choose between Everyone, Followers, and Only You.
Change Privacy Setting from the Data Summary Page
You can also make your Tracks, Routes, Waypoints, or Folders public or private from the list view or data summary page.
1. Log in to your account on gaiagps.com. Then click the drop-down menu next to your username/icon and select the type of data you wish to change.
2. From the list page, you can toggle public/private by clicking the On/Off toggle in the Public column.
3. Or you can click on the title of a piece of data to open the details page.
4. From the details page, you can toggle public/private by clicking Public/Private under the title of your item.
5. For Waypoints and Routes, you have the option to toggle the privacy from public to private.
6. For Tracks, you have the option to choose from a dropdown privacy menu; you can choose between Everyone, Followers, or Only You.
Note: You cannot change the privacy of your tracks, waypoints, and routes in bulk. You can bulk delete items, toggle sync on/off, and change folders of items in bulk, but you must change the privacy of each item individually.
Home Feed Considerations
The privacy settings that you set through the app or through your Outside profile will set the overall privacy of your tracks.
Example: If you have chosen Profile -> Private and Activity Settings -> Followers, your tracks will appear on the home feed for your followers alone to see.
If you have chosen Profile -> Private and Activity Settings -> Only You, your tracks will be visible only to you and will not be shared to the feed.
