    I'm sorry for the confusion. I noticed you also sent us an email and Robyn has responded to your question.

    It would be nice if there was an answer to this question so that future users could solve the same problem. I just downloaded a cross-country gpx file for example, and I'd love to convert it to a route that I can follow in the same folder the import is saved in, so that I can navigate it easily without the confusion of every other way point, track, etc. on my map.

    @thedaddybadger
    You can use the Guide Me feature (iOS/Android) in the app to follow the track you imported. Since the file was originally written as a track, you can also use a program like GPSBabel to convert the track into a route.

    To prevent confusion with your past tracks, I recommend toggling off the visibility (iOS/Android) for the tracks you don't need for your current trip.

    There simply is *no* interface to import a Route in gaiagps.com, you can only draw a Route.
    You can only upload file from the Tracks section, and it saves as a track even if if the file is in a .gpx Route format.
    So converting a Track to a Route with GPSBabel does no good.

    This is slightly off-topic, but I also learned that if you export a .gpx file from a Track that was missing elevation values, it adds elevation tags for every point but the all have the same value -1000.000 like so:
    <rtept lat="37.457660000" lon="-121.863290000">
    <ele>-1000.000</ele>
    <name>RPT001</name>
    </rtept>
    <rtept lat="37.457500000" lon="-121.861640000">
    <ele>-1000.000</ele>
    <name>RPT002</name>
    </rtept>
    <rtept lat="37.457450000" lon="-121.861340000">
    <ele>-1000.000</ele>
    <name>RPT003</name>

    All I really want is a way to be able have a map with elevation data if someone sends me a GPX that's missing elevation tags.
    I don't really care if it's a Route or a Track because either can be used for navigation on a hike.
    I did notice if you record a Track by hiking it will include real elevation values (as well as speed).
    But of course that's only after the fact.
    The *only* way to have a map with elevations on gaiagps.com before a hike is to draw the hike manually (create a Route).

    Hi Martin,
    I'm sorry you are having trouble importing your route - you should be able to import a route saved to a GPX file.

    Can you send a copy of your file to support@gaiagps.com so we can troubleshoot?

    If tracks or routes don't have elevation information, I recommend using http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/elevation which will automatically assign the missing elevation information to your data.

    If you have any questions, send a note to support@gaiagps.com - we're happy to help.
