Spikes with Samsung A20 (V.10) need new phone advice
No matter what I try, I can't get Gaia to work with my 'newer' Android phone. I took a 1.6 mile walk today and Gaia had me spiking everywhere and calculated that I went 4.6 miles. I would like to buy an inexpensive used phone to just use for the Gaia app. Can I get some recommendations of an 'older' phone that supports Gaia? Thanks.

Hi dllabrie,
I'm sorry you are having issues with Gaia GPS. I can definitely help.
Can you check these settings on your phone to enable Gaia GPS to locate you:- Give the app permission to use your location services by going to your phone's settings> Applications > Gaia GPS > Permissions > toggle on Location.
- Then set your phone's location services for the app to "Device/GPS Only" Here is how to do that.
- Also, make sure your Battery Saver mode is set 'Off', this will affect your GPS signal.

I left this post on another thread, but want to spead the word.
I returned a Samsung A15 after having horrible spiking problems. Hours of research and trying different settings didn't help. Now I have an A35 [with a Samsung rather than Mediatek chipset] which still has problems with spikes, though much smaller. It will show where I am, more or less, but with all the little spikes adds about 30% distance to often hiked trails. Finally I saw this final line on a post by Gaia help https://help.gaiagps.com/hc/en-us/articles/360035349774-Android-Track-recording-inaccurate-or-has-spikes "As a workaround, some users have reported that using another mapping app simultaneously while tracking resolves this issue." It worked! Now I record tracks in a free version of CalTopo while recording tracks in GAIA. No spikes, except when not moving for a few minutes. Also go to Settings/Location/Location services. Turn on Location Accuracy, turn off WiFi scanning and bluetooth scanning.
