I figured it out.  I coulnd't get the filter options menu to appear.  Sometimes when gaia is downloading a map it becomes very unstable and menus etc don't seem to work.  This is on Galaxy Tab S2.

Is this actually resolved? I have no idea how to see the progress or an estimate of how long it will take. Some times I'm trying to get offline while running out the door to go on an adventure so it helps to have an idea of what resolution map I should go for.

The notification seems to just be an animated gif that displays as long as you leave it there

Oh! The progress bar is super hidden away, I found it. You guys should have the trey notification/indication take the user to that activity in the app it would be helpful.

... though I think it does do that and the activity requires the downloads filter to be activated in order to show the progress bar... maybe you should show the progress bar in the "all" filter mode as well

The app does hang while downloading. Its been stuck on a particular tile for a few minutes now. Probably explains why it takes so long to download in comparison to anything else that I download of similar size

I'm sorry that you're having trouble with your map download. Can you let me know which map source and the coordinates of the area you are having an issue downloading?

I've also opened an internal feature request to surface the Download Status page in the app so it is easier to find, thank you for the feedback on that.

Nathan, looks like during that time I was likely downloading a map of Pawtuckaway State Park in NH.

I don't think hanging is the end of the world. The downloads all eventually come through. I've just gotten into the habit of downloading the map the day before the trip so it will download while I charge at night.

Haven't observed it particularly closely since then, but I just figure a quarter gig map is going to take longer than a gig linux iso I might download. Most people probably have little to compare to in order to say its slower than anything else so I not sure this is something the deserves a high place in the backlog. Being able to easily find the progress bar to gauge expectations is probably a lot less effort to tackle on the dev side of things.

Practically, it just means that waiting to the morning of the trip to get maps is a bad idea despite a 130+mbps connection (on device that I use to download the maps). The user can solve the issue having a general idea how fast the map will come in. ETA would be helpful with downloads, but seeing the progress bar has been enough for me. It was only frustrating not knowing where the bar is and having it just be a mystery
