my saved tracks versus my saved hikes

I feel dumb asking this but I cannot figure out in my mind what the differences are between My Tracks and My Hikes? I'm trying to learn this software before my first trip out so it isn't a big headache. But these two tings seem the same to me.

  "My Tracks" are Tracks you've recorded using the Gaia GPS app. 
  "My Hikes" are public paths you've searched for and saved to your account.

  I used Gaia on my PC yesterday and all was fine, plotted a route, etc. Today on the PC none of my tracks or routes are showing on the map, but waypoints are. I checked Map Overlays for My Data and all are toggled on. I can look at individual tracks and routes from the dropdown but still nothing when I go to Explore the Map. Everything shows up fine on my iPhone. Any suggestions as to what I may have accidentally done to create this problem?
