“New” Gaia app not up to “old” app standards
I have used the original Gaia app (no yellow border) on a few generations of iPhone for years with a paid membership and as part of my local SAR organization and for personal use. Great app, few issues.
New device purchases (2018 iPad Pro) resulted in only being able to install the new (yellow border) Gaia app, and this version seems seriously buggy. I’m logged into the same account on both devices, but the more powerful iPad (new app) constantly hangs while it (re-?)downloads piles of maps it already downloaded previously, fails to show recent activity from the phone (old app) despite forcing both apps to sync (settings > account), and generally spends endless time not rendering maps or tracks. Why is the old app so responsive and the new app so useless? I have over 100 GB of free storage on my iPad available but every time I open the app it spends 30+ minutes downloading (redundant?) maps. Changes made on the phone aren’t reflected on the iPad despite syncing both apps to the Gaia mothership using the same account. Where can I get a version of the old app for my iPad? Not happy with the yellow border.

I've been using Gaia on my Android with my paid membership for a couple of years and have loved it. Since downloading the recent update, the app won't track my routes accurately. It will show up with crazy spikes off in different directions making an approximately 7-mile trek look like 18 miles.
Can anyone point me in the direction of posts or information from Gaia about dealing with these errors? If I delete and download the app again, will I lose all of my saved data?

I have spent hours with the same issue of tracks being completely wonky since downloading the new Gaia-GPS Android App. I was hoping I could reinstall the old App since it was pretty much flawless for 3 years on my Samsung J7-V. I have noticed that the GPS accuracy bounces all over the place to the tune of 20m to over 120m. That also includes the same issue (tracks and locations bouncing around) with other second party Google Play Apps such as GPS Status & Toolbox. I checked the US Gov't Space Force (they now manage the US GPS satellite system) website, and could find nothing as to why this bouncing locations is happening. I sure hope it can get pinned down and fixed.

I made the suggested change listed below and it worked!

I have 5 apps on my Android, 1 I use, 2 I try to use(including GAIA) and 2 I should delete. The easiest to use is All Trails, which makes it the winner. I don't like spending hours on a steep learning curve when it shouldn't be that difficult - that's directed at Route Scout too. It's frustrating because the capabilities look useful. All 5 have different strengths and weaknesses, but ease of use is important. For GAIA I've tried youtube videos, website input, trial and error....geez, c'mon. And why does this app make you dowload a map area? That is a weakness. Their trail list to search is minimal, no water report input(Route Scout has this, All Trails, no)...Hey, I'm still trying because so many love it, I hope I can figure it out and be a believer too. If one of these apps could address features that seem most popular they could probably dominate. Hey, maybe it is really hard.

I never could get the latest update to properly track on my Samsung J7-V. I set Location to phone only, still no luck. It must be this particular Samsung phone model. I use MapMyWalk for measuring distance and still use Gaia for all other map work. mjg, you don't have to always download maps, only when you are going to be out of cell service, which I realize, can be a lot of the time if your using it strictly for backcountry use. Or your going to need Terabytes of memory to download a whole part of the country or whole states. Personally, I would never trust an App for water reports. The consequences could be deadly if your talking about desert areas. There is a learning curve with GaiaGPS, but maybe because I was a part time ArcGIS hack at work, I did not think it was that bad to learn. You might consider a dedicated GPS receiver, not cheap and although they do come with a very basic map package, you do need to buy detailed maps for hiking. Good luck searching for the Holy Grail of map Apps.

Sorry to hear you're having issues with your track recordings.
Some devices, like the Samsung Galaxy A and J models, have reported an issue where their tracks have errant spikes throughout the recording.
We believe this is related to the GPS chips used in these devices.
As a workaround, some users have reported that using another mapping app (like Google Maps) simultaneously while tracking resolves this issue.Learn more here: Track recording inaccurate or has spikes

I was skeptical about using another, simultaneous mapping app, but alas, that solved my Samsung A51 phone's spiking problem. I will now check to see if the other app, when run by itself, has a spiking issue or not.
