I spoke with Chris from support about this today. I was under the impression that it was a bug and not showing up. Its only for apple products...

I don't know why you would make a function available on one platform but not the other... Favoritism for apple products much?...

Thanks for posting. We definitely understand the value in adding this feature to the Android app. We are currently working on a big under the hood improvement to the Android app's mapping framework - after in which we will be able to add features such as this.

When downloading multiple maps for an area, you can overlap the download area and the app will know not to redownload parts of the map that have been download already.

On gaiagps.com you can view a preview of the area each map download covers.
    - Log into your account on gaiagps.com> click the drop-down menu> Maps> Select a map download > The download area will be shaded

You can also do this in the Android app:

    - Open the app> Saved> Select your map download> Tap the preview image> Expand Preview

Robyn, when do you expect that your "under the hood" improvement will be completed? I'm looking forward to added features it'll bring for us Android users

While I don't have a firm ETA on when this project will be finished, we recently brought on two new talented software engineers to help with this transition. We're hoping with our expanded team, we will have this project finished by the end of the summer.

Robyn - I'm beginning to lose faith. I subscribed to Gaia last year based mostly on the great reviews I'd seen about it. I'm an Android user and expected to enjoy all of those wonderful features. I was quite disappointed to see the significantly limited set of features available on Android and the somewhat twisted implementation of many of those features. But I saw that you were working on a major Android update, so I was willing to wait. At that time, Gaia was saying that the update might be available by the end of the year (2018), but if not, most likely at the beginning of 2019. Now here we are in the middle of March and you are indicating there is no real scheduled date but you are hoping for the end of summer, based on a couple of new hires. I read this as who knows when you might get around to it and it'll likely be the end of the year, if that.

As a paying customer, this is very disappointing to me and makes me want to look around for alternatives. If the update isn't forthcoming in a reasonable time frame, I see little reason to continue to pay. Last year there were a lot of posts from Gaia indicating that you were totally committed to this update, that you fully understood the need to improve the Android experience and that you were working diligently on getting it out quickly. Now there doesn't seem to even be a target date but you are hopeful based on a couple of new hires (I'm assuming they weren't even on the radar last year when you were projecting early this year for a release).

You have a great ios product but you really need to bring that functionality forward to the Android system if you expect us to stay with you. I am very disappointed with the lack of a crisp target date and the seemingly never ending slippage of this introduction. I think you owe it to your Android customers to get this release out quickly, or at least be honest that you don't have a clue as to when we can expect it.

I'm sorry to hear you've been frustrated, a few notes:

    1) If you send a note to support@gaiagps.com and ask for Ashli, I'd be happy to give you a refund and some free Membership time. We don't want anyone to pay for something that they're not happy with.

    2) The Android upgrade Robyn mentioned has been in progress since last year, it's just taking longer than expected.

    3) The reason you see more features on iOS is that the company started out iOS-app-only, so that's historically been the flagship. But, recently we've started to have the resources to get Android in shape, and we're working on it.
