I just got Beta 72.0.3626.59 pushed to my CB+ and it looks like the native method has been added into ChromeOS.

I was able to select my SD Card as a storage location for maps and am currently downloading my first one!

sorry to go slightly off-topic (hijacking your original question), but I'm exploring using Gaia GPS on my Acer Chromebook. So, I'm curious how you are able to make this function?  I don't believe my Chromebook possesses a built-in GPS receiver.  Am I wrong about that?  If I am right about that, then I have also been exploring other alternatives, e.g., mirroring my Samsung Android tablet (my main GaiaGPS tool) TO the Chromebook.  It would be lovely to just run Gaia GPS straight from my Chromebook, but in lieu of that just being able to take advantage of the larger display would be nice too.
