I'm sorry for the trouble. Can you send me your activity logs for Gaia GPS so I can include them in our investigation of this issue?

There is an open bug report for this and I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

However, the bug does not affect the actual recording so your hike will still be recorded until you stop the track recording.

As a workaround, navigating away and then back to the main map will display your current track.

I too just had this problem last week. It recorded fine for the first hour. Then it disappeared and even though I hit "resume recording" it would never do it, nor would it give me the option to try again. I couldn't figure out how to even abort the trip and try to start over completely. Very frustrating. I'm in Mexico and I'll never be able to do that trip again. Please advise if there's a fix for this?

Will the photos I took along the route post?

I have been experiencing this "problem" for years on Android phones. Tracking stops silently and does not re-start (or does not seem to restart) unless I "RECORD" a new track. The timing is coincidental with Strava announcing that it has recovered from a blip and has immediately resumed recording. Map My Walk just recovers without any announcement.

The result: MMW and Strava create a single track. GAIA GPS creates fragments (although) reading posts above indicate that something more is happening.

So, if it is a burp in Android, which recovery method is best?

I prefer a warning: "Recovered and still recording, etc., unless I push STOP recording" and not to what seems to be GAIA's "Silent death and no recovery".

Also I would like to be able to use a settable smoothing function (such as a simple moving average window) to smooth location data. My Android devices seem have a lot of location noise, and produce distances that are incorrect ... sometimes as much 8% off)  ... If I download the data and use a 3 or 5 second moving window to average location, distances become much more accurate when compared to iPhone recordings of the same trip or comparisons to maps.

I'm sorry there was an issue with your track recordings.

I noticed you also sent an email. It looks like Chris has responded to your questions and is following up with you on the issue.

Can you send the activity logs for Gaia GPS to support and include a copy of your recent track recording?

    • open Gaia GPS > Settings > Other > Send Logs and someone from the support team will follow up with you shortly

Sent logs and gpx file from yesterday's perfect, end to end track recording (very good), a Strava gpx file from that same trip (it had error and recovered), and 2 gpx files from tracks that stopped (3 days ago). Thanks for taking a look.
