Verbal Instructions during turn by turn routing?

I'm confused. There is a option in Gaia Settings to "Enable spoken verbal instructions during turn by turn routing". I have enabled it, but it does not work. Is there something I am missing? I don't see or hear any turn by turn instructions. If these are actual features, please tell me how they work.

  Turn by turn instructions are available for drivable routes in the Android app.
