New android tablet won't track. Locks up when moving. Works fine on other apps.

I got a new tablet for navigating. Plenty of memory and power for the task. When standing still, I can zoom in and move the map around. As soon as I start moving, it locks up. The tablet works great (tracks right along) on Google Maps and other tracking apps, but not on GAIA. I've turned on location and double checked all the settings. Wondering if something is wrong with the app, or if I'm doing something wrong. I've been using GAIA for years and it's worked on several other devices, so I'm pretty familiar with the operation.
