Google Maps data / Google Maps not available ?

I was just working on the web site trying to import a GPX route and look at what is around the waypoints ... does this app NOT use Google or Apple maps for labels or points of interest ?

What am I missing here ?

Is there an upgrade option to use google maps in the app ?

  Thanks for using Gaia GPS.
   
  The points of interest which are searchable in Gaia GPS largely come from OpenStreetMap data, an Open-source and public mapping project. 
   
  You can actually contribute to OSM in order to add trails and features to the map. Read more about this and find instructions here: Contribute to OpenStreetMap
   
  If you decide to contribute any updates to OpenStreetMap, you'll see the changes in Gaia GPS in two to three weeks. 
   
  Not all features which appear on the map are searchable, but things like parks and trails should be. 
   
  Unfortunately, Google no longer allows their map sources to be used by third-party applications and downloaded for offline use. This is why we had to discontinue offering Google map sources. Sorry about that!
