Distance along route

It would be great to have a simple way to find the the distance of a certain point along the route during planning. I could plot a new route on top my current route, but this seems very cumbersome. Other apps (eg all trails) seem to accomplish this very simply by having an elevation graph with a distance bar that shows the distance while having a marker hover along your route. I prefer Gaia maps in every way except the omission of this feature. This seems like a very obvious feature, so apologies if this already exists but I haven't been able to figure it out. "How far is it to the next way point" or "how far along the route is this campsite" seem like very reasonable queries that a navigation app should be able to answer.
