Waypoint moves

I installed GAIA on my iPhone 13. I set the map layer to USGS topo. I placed a waypoint and saved. I then edited the location of the waypoint by dragging it to a new location. When I saved the map the waypoint displayed in a slightly, but significant location. For example, the waypoint was placed at the intersection of two roads. When saved it would not be on either road. This is very disconcerting.

Can you tell me what is happening?
