Map arrow not showing up

I'm having the same problem on a Pixel 4 XL running Android 11. It just started happening a couple months ago. The app knows where I'm at because touching the locate me button centers the map at my location. But the map arrow doesn't show. Even powering the phone on and off doesn't fix the problem. The map arrow comes back when I reconnect to mobile data or wifi.

I have a pixel 3. Seems like a recent development. Worked fine for me last summer on a big trip out of cell range. If it doesn't get fixed, I'll have to go to Caltopo, since the app is now useless.

I really like the Gaia GPS, but I agree that this bug makes it hard to rely on it when I'm out backpacking.

    @chrisharkness79 and @Jen R

    Sorry for the trouble.

This bug has been identified and a fix for it will go live with version 2021.7.  I don't have a timeline on when this will be released, but it should be in beta in the next couple of days.

Make sure you have the app set to update automatically so you get it as soon as it's released.

If you would like access to this release sooner, join our beta program: Android Beta Testers

If this happens again, force closing and re-opening the app might fix it.  However, this might not work in all cases.

    Hi all,

This issue should now be completely fixed in the latest version, 2021.7, which is now available in the Play Store.

Follow these steps to update Gaia GPS:

    1. Open the Google Play Store app .
    2. Tap Menu My apps & games.
    3. Apps with an update available are labeled "Update."
    4. Tap Update All to update all apps. For individual apps, find the specific app you want to update and tap Update.

Note: Some apps require new permissions when they are updated. You may see a notification asking if you accept the new permissions.
Tip: In some cases, you may need to restart your device to update an app.

If you joined the beta program to get the beta version of 2021.7, you can leave the beta program with these steps: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7003180?hl=en

If you have any further questions, please contact Support here.

    Hi @Jim,
I can confirm that the big fix worked. I finally got it on the trail and tested the updated app. The map arrow and my routes displayed on the map even after a full reboot of my phone. Hooray! Thx for the quick fix and great communication about the issue. Happy I can rely on Gaia GPS again.

    Hi @Jim.

I'm having some issues with the Map Arrow disappearing while in Compass mode on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite. Currently running Gaia 2021.12. Pretty much haven't gotten the Arrow to show more than a couple of seconds while moving at any time. I do not have this issue on my phone (Galaxy S20, also Gaia 2021.12). Please advice on how this issue can be resolved.

Other info: I'm mostly using the Sweden Topo or World Imagery (as well as some imported data sources) maps.
