Route guidance makes current track recording disappear

I create or download a route, start recording my track and then use route guidance "Guide Me" to follow the route. However as soon as I do that, the my currently recording track disappears from the display. Why on earth would the app make the current track invisible when using route guidance?  Is there some way I can see my currently recording track while following a route?

  The response I got from Gaia was "that's the way it's supposed to work". So making the current track invisible when following a route is by design.  I don't agree with that particular choice and have requested that the current track remain visible when route guidance is on but there are no current plans for that feature as far as I know.

  Seems like Gaia has still a ways to go to match some of the basic features of ViewRanger: sort waypoints/tracks/routes by proximity, customizable track/route color and thickness, customizable recording interval, selective visibility of tracks/routes instead of "all or none".
