Confused on downloading map updates
Sometimes in iOS I'll see the 'tap here to update layer x' at the top of my saved items list. But other times I'll read a new Gaia blog post about an update to a specific layer and the update layer option never appears. It's very confusing. Do only some layers have the update option? Do other layers have to be deleted and re-downloaded? How does one know when the map is updated and one has to do this?

Hi Mark,
Sorry for the confusion. Updates should show at the top of your Saved item menu. If you don't see an update, try force closing and re-opening the app. Updates will only for sources you already have downloaded. If you don't have maps of the source downloaded, the update is automatic.
If that doesn't work, here's how to update a source:- Remove the map source from the Layers menu. Layers menu > Add map layers (at bottom) > **Category___** > **Map Source___** > X Remove. This will delete this layer from any Saved maps, but you can download the maps again later.
- Force close Gaia GPS
- Wait 30 seconds
- Open Gaia GPS and re-add the map source. Layers menu > Add map layers (at bottom) > **Category___** > **Map Source___** > Add.
- Any maps with this layer on your account will have been archived. Follow these steps to unarchive them: Archiving, Unarchiving, and Recovering Lost Data
