What's the difference between a route and a hike?
I'm trying to understand the difference between a route and a hike, and how I should interact with them when using the app. What are their distinct purposes?
It seems that if I want to create an outing that doesn't exist yet, it's a route. But if I search the map and find an outing that others have already completed, it's a hike? If I save my planned outing (the one others haven't done yet), it's saved to my "routes" in the app. If I save the outing others have completed, it's saved to my "hikes" in the app.
I'm confused why there's a distinction between the two.

The database of Hikes are created when a trail marked on the Gaia Topo map matches multiple track recordings by users.
If there's not a Hike that goes where you want and you'd like to be able to follow a line on the map while navigating, you can create a Route. Routes can also be useful for manually measuring distances on the map.

I had the same question and now I understand the difference. It would be more useful if I can copy / transfer a hike in "My Hikes" into a route or a folder that I'm organizing the upcoming trip with. Only thing I could do would be to download a hike as GPX and import it, which doesn't sound a smart way.
Alternatively, it would be wonderful if "Save Hike" button has two options like "Into My Hikes" and "As a route".
