Waypoints with turn by turn navigation

When I create a route and activate navigation, all waypoints disappear.  Is there any way or planned feature to have intermediate points along a route?  An example would be gas stops or scenic spots along a planned route.  It would be nice to know distance to the next waypoint as well as distance to the end of the route.

  I can definitely see how it would be helpful to show intermediate waypoints along a route.
  
  We don't have plans for anything like this at the moment, but I'll create an internal request for this to keep track.
