Assent & descent numbers are very incorrect in repeated short assents & descents
The assent & descent numbers are way off in my tracks when I take a hike with multiple short assents and descents. I don't have a problem when the route is just a multiple mile assent followed by a descent.
I have a route I hike multiple times a week in a park near my home. The route consists of a 200 yard 80' assent followed by a 60' descent and right back up the 60', followed by an 80' descent and right back up. Then back to the top of the first assent where I go back down and repeat the 3 assents/descents.
At the end of 7 repetitions of these 3 assents/descents I have 21 assents/descents. The Gaia app shows 407' assent and 360' descent. When I load this track into Google Earth it shows about 1609'/1610' elevation gain/loss.
Just doing the rough math of 14 assents of 80' and 7 assents of 60' that adds up to 1540'.
As noted earlier if I just hike a steady climb of say 1000' to a peak and back down the assent/descent numbers match what shows on a map as well as Google Earth.
