Straight and Trail Follow in one route line
AnsweredHello,
Kinda new to using GAIAGPS, but one feature that I feel is missing when compared to another route creating website that I use is the ability to have a single route line that switches between trail-following and straight line (not requiring to follow a trail).
I just watched the "Building a Route on gaiagps.com webinar" on youtube, and was surprised that the guy had to create three separate routes because the path he wanted to use had a section without a trail. In the other product, I can switch between following a trail and free drawing in the middle of a route. It's quite convenient. That way reduces the number of routes that you have to have in a folder and just makes it all much cleaner.
Thanks for all your hard work. It's a pretty amazing product. Might just have to upgrade to pro.

Hi there,
It is possible to do a "trail-follow" and "straight" route in one route line. If the routing mode is snap to trail and there are not trails nearby to snap to, it will default to the straight line routing mode. The key is putting the individual nodes far enough from trails so that it won't snap to the trail.
Here's a demo of how this works: https://www.dropbox.com/s/h6mjiqqnk50he8o/route%20straight%20and%20snap.mov?dl=0
