How to turn off full screen mode?

When I switch to full screen mode, I can't figure out how to get back OUT of it!  Suggestions

  To exit out of full-screen mode, you can tap the icon with four inward-pointing arrows in the top left corner of your screen:

  when it goes to 'expand preview' there are no arrows, or anything else, on the screen . Very aggravating and no clear way to escape.

  delete the app and lose all waypoints, tracks etc?? Very poor design.

  Cannot get out of preview map screen. There are no icons at all on the screen. Suggestions?

  Did they ever get a solution for this? I can not get out of full screen either.
