Issues with app on Samsung Galaxy A20
I have a couple issues with the app on my Galaxy A20.
The first is that I have been unable to resolve tracking issues when the screen is off. It appears no points are recorded when the screen is off. When I turned the screen on it would draw a straight line from the last location where I had the screen on. When I would stop for a couple minutes, it would keep recording points around my location, accumulating mileage. This was a short walk, roughly 1.2 miles. By the time I was done and stopped recording it was showing 1.53 miles traveled.
The other issue I noticed is the compass tape on the map was 180° out. I was on Nannie Peak in the Goat Rocks Wilderness looking almost due north at Mount Rainier with the compass tape showing south.
Any ideas on what settings to look at in my phone to correct these issues?

@roughlandings
Sorry for the trouble.
I've answered your questions inline below:
The first is that I have been unable to resolve tracking issues when the screen is off.
Will you try the steps in this article and let me know if that resolves this issue for you?
The other issue I noticed is the compass tape on the map was 180° out.
Follow these instructions to toggle the compass off and back on:- open Gaia GPS
- tap Settings > tap Map Controls
- toggle Compass to OFF, then back to ON
If that does not help, can you try calibrating your compass and see if that helps? Here are the steps for that:

Thanks Jim.
I was unable to resolve the tracking issue by adjusting the phone's location settings as recommended. I did a test track last night doing a walk that I have tracked numerous times using the MapMyRide app on my bicycle. It is roughly 4 miles round trip. The Gaia app tracked a total distance of 9.1 miles and my newly acquired Garmin inReach Explorer+ tracked 3.9 miles.
I have not yet tried using Google Maps simultaneously with the Gaia app to see if that resolves the tracking issue; will try that today. The Garmin is a shared device between me and my dad so I won't always have it and intend on keeping the Gaia app and subscription for the planning and navigation capability.
On the second issue, I am QUITE embarrassed to admit that the compass issue was user error. We thought we were looking at Mount Rainier (north of our location) when we were actually looking at Mount Adams (south of our location). I am amazed at how much Adams looks like Rainier from that perspective.
