APRS Integration (APRS-IS and Bluetooth KISS TNC)
Not plannedTrying to pick up from the APRSdroid integration discussion from two years ago. The idea to integrate one specific application limited to one platform is probably the reason why this didn't go anywhere. Instead I propose:
1. Provide a map layer that represents real-time data from APRS-IS (http://www.aprs-is.net/Connecting.aspx)
2. Provide an interface to generic Bluetooth enabled KISS TNC (Mobilinkd,PLXTrackerBlue, ANT51 and Kenwood TH-D74A.
Having 1. would already be fantastic.

Yes please. I run an overlanding group and we have standardized on ham radios for communications. With more and more people starting to use APRS in the backcountry having an map overlay from the radio data, like in number two above, would be great. We recently switched from Backcountry Navigator which had this functionality 3 years ago. Right now we have to switch back and forth between the apps but everyone agrees Gaia is the supperior app in all other aspects. Our member base is 1000+.

I too would like this integration. Back Country Navigator XE (and Pro) is the only off the grid oriented navigation app that includes APRS functionality, but I prefer the usability and file management of Gaia. Getting APRS integrated would truly make this the one nav app to rule them all I think.
And there's still activity in the other, older thread:

Hey all,
We track feature requests across platforms so you don't need to start a separate thread in each repo.
@florian, are you requesting something different than was requested in the original post in the Android repo?

Hi Chris, I mean no disrespect in this, but what would it take to get the development leadership to take this seriously? This feature request has been around for a long time, literally years. The primary thread, which you linked, is 3 years old. But the desire for this feature has been around since early 2014, that's 7 years! And it was even acknowledge by co-founder Andrew Johnson.

Is there something, anything, that we the users can do to help get this ball rolling?

Hi Chris, just to backup what wakeboarder said this would be a very, very useful feature in the offroad community. As more people transition to ham radio's in the backcountry the use of APRS is increasing. We routinely use it to link up different groups of our members well beyond cell service. Seems like an APRS overlay shouldn't be too difficult to implement and the benefits for those of us who use it and need it would be significant. Gaia has the best maps but this would make the functionality complete. Please consider putting it on the roadmap. Thanks!

In an effort to centralize the APRS conversation, and because this is a feature request in the general topic, I'm closing this thread. Please feel free to keep the conversation going over in the original request for this feature. I'll cross-post your question and this response over there too.
wakeboarder26, keep the energy up for this feature and vote for it. That's all it takes. Voting for a feature request is the single best way to show us what you think is important. Because a post has a lot of votes doesn't necessarily mean a feature will get implemented, but it's a surefire way to let us know what you care the most about.
That said, we're keenly aware that this is the highest voted feature request right now and we are listening. At this time, we have other projects in mind so this feature isn't on the roadmap, but that doesn't mean it never will be.
Thanks!
