    Hello all,

Folders are now available in the Saved Items sidebar!

We've implemented a lot of the features you've been asking for. Here are some highlights:

    • Nested folders - Items filed to folders are no longer shown at the root level. Opening a folder takes you to a view of just the items in that folder. This functionality should feel familiar to anyone who has used folders in Windows Explorer or Finder.
    • Create, edit, and delete folders from the sidebar.
    • Filter the sidebar by Folders
    • Adds a button to “Create a new item” to the saved items sidebar. Allows you to create new items while inside a folder.
    • Adds the ability to file items and folders to folders. Adds an interface that allows you to either select a recently used folder, create a new folder, or browse your existing folders.
    • Adds the ability to change the visibility of folders

There are a few limitations with folders at the movement:

    • Folders shared with you will not be displayed below the root level.
    • From the sidebar, folder privacy can be toggled between public and private, but there is not a way to share or view the details of folders just yet.
    • If an item is filed to a folder, that folder is not displayed when viewing the item’s details in the sidebar.

We are continuing to work on this and we have a few follow-ups already planned:

    • Address the current limitations
    • Allow an item to be filed to a folder from its details sidebar
    • Improve support for shared folders

You can read more about working with folders in the sidebar here.

You can hide folders from the main map on the website by archiving them with these steps: Archiving, Unarchiving, and Recovering Lost Data

Note that this will remove the folder from your device, but you can sync it again later if needed.

Thanks for your idea about being able to change color and style at the folder level.  We appreciate your feedback and taking the time to write in about this.

I'd like the same functionality. I imported a lot of waypoints for camping and I'd like to be able to switch them on and off like I do with layers. Maybe adding the ability of using a folder as a layer would be a solution?

I ability to use as layer like the app would be awesome.  I like to use the web site to plan my trips.   Its so difficult to plan a trip with all my saved waypoints/routes/tracks.  It is not very useful to archive and unarchive, and then forget that you have not unarchived while on a trip.

    Hey there,

Just a quick update on this feature request.

We are currently working on hiding/unhiding folders from the main map. That isn't quite available yet.

But you can hide/unhide specific items using the new data sidebar on the website. It's quick and easy to hide just a few waypoints or tracks that are cluttering an area.

Check out how to do that here: https://help.gaiagps.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043142334-Show-or-Hide-Tracks-Routes-Areas-and-Other-Data-on-the-Map-on-gaiagps-com

Yes, I would love to see this feature.  Gaia appears to be a better overall solution for me, but this feature is executed so well by CalTopo that I'm struggling to convince myself to make the switch.  When I'm planning a trip, I often make multiple route options that may overlap in some locations.  It is nice to be able to toggle complete folders on and off so I can see the different routes I have planned.

Would also like the ability to easily hide/show per folder.

I have a lot of map information organized in folders, for example: one folder with all camping parks in my country, another folder with all the river beaches in the country, another with all the old Roman Roads and marks, and some more that come in handy when programming a trip and also when out and about without program.

I then proceed to add some more folders while programming different adventures that already happened OR will happen in the future and that I don't need to see all the time.

When everything loads at the same time it's just too much info cluttering, but it's nice to be able to turn it on/off like another map layer to contribute with assertive information.

Being able to hide/unhide folders from the map is ESSENTIAL. !!!!

I have 600-2500 waypoints of campgrounds per state and I want to be able to turn each state on or off.  I also have a folder of just hot springs that I want to show or not show. I have a folder of general POI to show or not show.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add this functionality!!!!!!!!

This is really a needed feature. Unfortunately this app/website is not usable without it for anyone with large collections of waypoints. Is there a refund policy ... I just started the annual subscription and the lack of this feature is a deal killer.

Instead of a refund how about adding the feature. It’s long over due. While your at it add downloading maps so they can sync with your mobile devices. Once Again long over due.

Gaia has the best functionality on the market. And has incorporated some very impressive technology. It is just so frustrating that something so simple compared to the rest of the awesome technology has been overlooked. Take a look at Guru Maps to see how simple they made hiding/showing groups of waypoints. Gaia has already done all of the hard work ... I think just a tiny more effort on usability like this will make it the clear winner.

Is this in the plans for Gaia? It seems like over this last year you were working on it. Are there plans to release it? Is there a general timeframe?

    thx

I agree that Gaia has really dropped the ball on waypoint and track management. There are many route or tracks out there that when imported have dozens of waypoints. There is no good way to edit them, deleting some and bulk editing icons on others.

I agree with you both. I love Gaia and will continue to use it, but it seems like the focus lately has mainly been flash over function. Adding more and more layers is cool, but when they're spending development resources to add layers like slope-angles for avalanches and mining/mineral resources, one can't help but think they've reached the point of diminishing returns for layers. They could instead be investing in basic functionality like hiding/showing folders requested here. At a minimum it would be nice if they could provide a public progress update to their original message back in April to appease curious minds instead of staying mum on the topic.

    Hello all,

We are eagerly looking forward to the release of this feature just as much as you are. I can assure you it's being worked on and we will update you as soon as it goes live.

That said, I'd like to remind everyone that we don't share timelines. Here's why.

I'll update this post again when hiding/unhiding folders is live. Otherwise, if you have any questions or issues, reach out to Support here.

Thanks Chris, I didn't know about the roadmap philosophy previously. Very much appreciated for taking the time to update us all.
