Baja base map

I just got back from 10 days of off-roading in Baja California and I am disappointed in the base map coverage.  None of the maps provided by Gaia showed basic routes, which are used extensively by locals and the off-road community.  The problem is the lack of a good base map.  Sure we can overlay KMLs and see the route, but that isn't enough. We need a good base map to see alternative routes.  Do you have any suggestions?  I resorted to saving off-line maps (Google Maps) on my iPad, but this process is a pain (inflexible).
