Extreme Platform Slowness
I've been experiencing extreme platform slowness over the last several days. When I try to load a certain route, the green wheel just keeps on spinning. This is not a connection issue, as I've tested my internet speeds and they're typically in the range 30-75 mbps. Furthermore, many of the tracks I've created don't show up n the explore map, and for whatever reason, I can't edit these tracks (they were not uploaded). I can only assume these issues are related to under-resourcing the requisite computing harware needed to power your platform. Those of us that are loyal and paying customers are frustrated by what seem to be ongoing nagging issues like this. A few months ago, it was the route creation feature pooping out and freezing while creating routes, now this. Your platform is awesome otherwise, but these performance issues really suck.

I am new to Gaia and it seems like this is what is happening to me as well. I did not have any issues on my computer when looking at maps but as soon as I downloaded my first map I cannot get the screen on my computer to display "Explore the map" when logged in. The wheel is just sitting there spinning and it won't do anything. Been going on 30 minutes and nothing.
Starting to wonder if there is not a better platform than Gaia at this point.
WTF?

Anyone else still experiencing this?
I use the app for work and it has become impossible to be productive with it - working with anything in the app (both ipad and iphone) has a lag time of 30+ seconds between actions i.e. hit "rename waypoint" and wait 30 seconds for it to pop up with the text entry box for waypoint editing.

I've upgraded to an iPhone 13 mini and after many days of map downloading, I'm still unhappy to find that my Gaia app is still pretty unresponsive and slow when it come to zoom and scroll around the map. It is a little better when in airplane mode (presumably using all of the downloaded maps) but still nearly unusable as it won't scroll or zoom without hesitating here and there.
I have restarted Gaia, downloaded the latest version, checked that location services are on, restarted the phone, made sure all maps are downloaded. My old iPhone 6s didn't seem to have these problems with Gaia.

Gaia,
This site was the best for a while for route planning. unfortunately when you switched to the new GUI a couple years ago it has just become unusable. There are constant "bugs" you say you are working on but the fix is simple, Ditch the silly new GUI and go back to the OLD school one. We dont need flashy stuff, we need a working program. I don't know what happened but I'm seriously bummed.

@nzedjared
Sorry for the trouble with slowness.
One possible cause could be other memory intensive apps running in the background.
Can you force close all applications, including Gaia GPS, with these steps? Also, having many sources active can sometimes cause issues such as slow rendering,
Can you try making only one map source active and let me know if that helps? Rather than moving the slider all the way to the left, you need to tap the red "x" to make the source inactive. If you have any further questions, please contact Support here.

Hi Jim - Did you hire some guys from Garmin by chance because I've had this kind of frustration before.
Over a 4 week period in SE Asia I tried closing all apps, turning off the phone and turning it back on again, putting it in and out of airplane mode, seeing if it needs updates...an enormous amount of time while I was supposed to be using Gaia to go places on vacation. In all cases, I am using a Gaia Topo downloaded map only for the region I am in with Openstreets for a small number of city areas. Usually only one layer. Its a new iPhone 13 so I don't think it is a processor or memory problem if I'm only running Gaia.
It takes so long to find my position and load a map, it is unusable. And once loaded, the screen does not respond to zoom or map moves. It will hang minutes even just pushing the gaia settings button. Once it does find my position, it will not continuously track making it unusable for the navigation I am trying to do.
I had to give up and go back to google maps. Gaia was no longer reliable.
