Map download options
AnsweredCurrently all the download options for a map are based on rectangular layers on the map, with a limit of either 10.000 or 100.000 tiles.
I assume that there will be a technical reason for that but I have this idea now, for example those 2 situations;
- when preparing a day trip from a base point we'd like to drive a different route to a POI than back form it to the base point
- when driving a straight route from NW to SE
In the first example there could be a (big) area in the middle of the circle that you will drive, which will not be use during the trip. In the second example the route appears to be diagonal to the North orientation of the "choose your download area" map. So in both situations lots of tile are downloaded and not used.
For the 1st example I've been trying to get a 'High' detailed 3-layer map for a route and needed 7 custom rectangles to download 3,5 GB of data.
My idea is, could it be made possible to get a setting which says "Download # meter/kilometer from track". Resulting in when you select a 3-layer map, including the heavy "World Imagery"-map, you can get a 1-click download for a certain track of the matching tiles.
This would solve both the examples. In this way you can efficiently plan a multi-day trip, set the routers and download the maps to your device.
Ofcourse the current way with rectangular shapes comes in handy when downloading a 'Small' or 'Medium' part of a single layer as a safety zone, but with less detail.
I'd like your opinion on this.

Hey @mail,
Thanks for the feedback.
It is currently possible to download maps along a route or track by following these steps:
The width of the map may vary slightly depending on the selected map source and the location of the track/route.
