Hi Russell,
Thanks for posting - when you first load the website, it tries to guess your location based on your IP address but it can sometimes get this wrong.
If you are on the 'Explore the Map' page, you can tap the location icon and the website will try to get a more accurate pin on your location.

First, there is NOT a "location" symbol any more.
Is there any way to turn OFF that IP address capture?
How about, can we set a start location on a zip code?
It is really quite annoying for the map to open 100 miles away.0 -
@mystictreg,
You can find the location button in the top right of the screen now. See "show current location" below.

There isn't a way to turn off this function, but you can disable location services within your browser. It's slightly different depending on the browser you're using, but clicking just to the left of the URL will usually show you these options. Here's an example from Firefox.

If you'd prefer the website to open at a specific location, I recommend that you save a bookmark when viewing a specific location. Here's an example:If I wanted to start at Clingman's Dome in the Smokey's every time I opened the website, I'd center my screen over Clingman's Dome like this:

Then I'd save a bookmark of the URL. The URL includes the lat/long coordinates of the area you're viewing so bookmarking this URL will take you to these coordinates every time you open it. You can share that URL to point other people to the same location too. See for yourself. Here's my Clingman's Dome bookmark: https://www.gaiagps.com/map/?loc=10.7/-83.5124/35.5496.

Thanks for the updated diagram.
Unfortunately, that won't work well for our county Search and Rescue. It's larger than a lot of NE US States! The cell phone returns a Tucson, AZ IP address, and Tucson is 1 to 3 hours away, depending on where we are in the county.I guess I'll have to copy and paste the coordinates from one app and put it in the Gaia. :(

Hi @mystictreg,
You can zoom in or out on the map to center your county (or other location) and the URL Chris mentioned above will include that zoom level. Then when you share the link with others, their map will open to the same county view (or other area) you are looking at.0
