    Hey all,

So it looks like the fix we released on Tuesday has resolved this bug for some but not all of you.

Our engineering team is continuing to look into the cause of this issue.

If anyone is still experiencing this and willing to help us troubleshoot further, please shoot us an email. Including your browser version is always appreciated.

Thank you for your patience with this.

I'm having this same issue on a Mac using both Safari and Chrome. It's working fine with my iPhone and iPad though.

This is impacting me also on multiple browsers. Tried in Chrome, Firefox and Edge on two different computers and networks. It is making it impossible to create/edit routes. I hope this gets addressed soon.

    URGENT

Please fix this Gaia, all route creation on all the browsers I've tested does not work. Its impossible for me to create the routes I need in order to conduct my hikes. Need solution.

I'm using my tablet to create routes for now but its inconvenient.

SOLVED for now by changing route mode to straight line. Its the hiking route mode that is bugged at the moment.

Same issue for me, I tried many times to create a road route using the latest version of Chrome and was never successful.  I was eventually able to successfully create a route using FireFox, but I did it very slowly - letting the spinning "thinking" circles stop before adding the next point.

Hours viewing  the youtube videos and getting set up just to finally see its NOT ME but the program that just does not work.

Wow, really ? So it reads no matter the brouser or PC or OS the snap to trail route freezes up at some point. Boom no saving work and no supplemental partial saving either, you have to start over. Straight line routing option sucks IMO. The other really unsolved issue and maybe its just a settings issue I cannot find is why do I have a Black elevation chart right in the middle of my desktop that will not move or reduce when I am making a new route? Ive looked in settings and for an option to move it or have it not open up. The cancel button shuts down the entire new route. I dont get it but I'm a new user.

I have a similar problem:  Firefox 64bit on Windows 10... all software current.   Have noticed that if my route stays on trails, then there is no problem.  As soon as I go off a trail, then the program freezes (appears to be in a loop as one of the cpu's is tied up).  Problem is very repeatable.

And another thing, get rid of the black elevation chart.  Was a nice idea but 1, it is not accurate, and 2 that is what contour lines are for.   If you want to have it, then make it optional or at least moveable.

Same issue here on android and MacOS devices. Had to go with straight line as the option that works. Sucks, but you can make up a route pretty quick and dirty if you aren't going a long way. For me it's primarily adventure motorcycling in the back country, where the only imperative thing is that I can stop, look down at my tablet and ensure I'm heading down the right fork I've come to. Gaia has been great for that. What amazes me is that when it was actually working the program could snap to routes on logging roads, and trails. That was a game changer for me in the woods! Good job Gaia .. now get to work and solve your routing creation issue and I'll be a happy camper.

And I concur on the elevation box stuck on the screen. Why not make it an option, AND once selected for on-screen viewing, allow the user to drag it to a convenient location OR anchor it to the bottom of the screen in a narrow band similar to what you can do in google earth.

One last thing - your sat imagery/orange topo lines layer is unreal! Love that layer. Spent yrs gawking at google earth, and have a feel for what some elevation changes look like by their cues but to see those topo lines add a huge degree of intelligence to scouting out an area.

So clearly it is a database thing, not a browser thing. It would be nice if Gaia would chime in here and admit there’s a problem and give us a timeframe for a fix. I feel like this is one of the most common uses for their system and there’s crickets from them about it. Communication is huge in customer service. AT LEAST ACKNOWLEDGE THERES AN ISSUE AND TELL US YOU'RE WORKING ON FIXING IT. People are pulling their hair out thinking there’s something wrong with their computer/browser, but it’s clearly not on our end, it’s on yours.

I filled a support ticket for this issue and got the following email from them yesterday.

    "Hi there,

I'm sorry you for the trouble. We recently found a bug that is affecting creating a route on the website and causing the browser to freeze.

I've added your information to the bug report and thank you for your help in investigating this issue.

For now, I recommend creating a route in the app.

    Create a route on Android
    Create a route on iOS

Again, I'm very sorry for any trouble this issue may cause. Please let me know if I can help with anything else in the meantime.

It's working for me now as long as the entire route is on trail. Including off-trail points still causes the freeze.

Not working for me still.  Same issues as above.  Constantly freezes and in some cases I'll lose previously saved routes.

Not the easiest thing making routes on an iPhone which is why I've always used a PC or Mac Book for route creation.  It's a total PIA to work with now.

Come on guys, lets get this fixed for us premium members.

Not working for me either.   Tried many times to create a route on different browsers, all freeze up.  I was tempted to sign up for a premium service, but won't do so until I see how effective GAIA is at addressing the issue.

On another point raised: I kinda like the black distance/elevation graph, but it is seriously wrong on elevation change... like 80% wrong on trails iv'e ridden and verified!  Please check the accuracy of stuff before releasing features.

I have a work around...I am building my tracks on AllTrails.com and just importing the GPX file to GAIAgps...my frustration level peaked yesterday already. Hmmm full supscription really feels like it was worth every penny right now - hope support has been enjoying their weekend.

    Hey all,

Thank you for all the feedback. It's incredibly helpful for getting bugs like this fixed ASAP.

The Development Team has resolved this issue and routing should work as intended now.

If you are still having issues please reach out via email (support@gaiagps.com) and we'll take a look at your specific case.

EDIT: It looks like this hasn't resolved this issue for everyone. See the official comment above for more info.

Come on GAIA, You have paying customers who can't use your product. I'm trying to plan an off-road trip and don't have time to fiddly-fart around with this. Make it work or we're gone.

I also agree with the above frustrations. Your reported fix did NOT solve this issue. For as good as GAIA should be it is fundamentally broken still. Please fix these issues ASAP. I am not happy right now with how it is broken and lack of ownership/transparency with this issue.

Roll back to the version of code you used before you broke it. Then fix the bug and thoroughly test it before releasing it to your paying customers.  This should be a direct path to getting things corrected in the short term and long term. But, I am only an engineer what do I know?

As a long time user and premium member, I now only use Caltopo to create routes and export the data to GAIA for navigation.  Caltopo should be a model for GAIA - just a stripped down very usable tool.

    Chris Hill,

Although angry and frustrated, I am willing to assist with troubleshooting in order to knock this out. There are a number of issues/inconsistencies I have experienced with mapping in GAIA. Here are a few bullet points of my various frustrations with the software:

    • Path creation freezes
    • USFS MVUM maps path metadata cannot be accessed on desktop browser, but can in the app.
    • Cannot reorganize map layers by click and drag--seems this should be a simple fix.
    • Toggle settings are inconsistent between app and desktop version. For instance: cannot toggle public tracks in app.
    • NOAA charts are poorly assembled. GREAT feature, but it would be helpful to clean this up somehow.
    • It would be awesome if GAIA could be used similarly to google maps for navigating from place to place by vehicle, foot, boat, etc. Would be a tremendous improvement to the software!

I still have this issue, and have for the past several weeks. It doesn't see to be connected to any aspect of the route, location of waypoint, number of waypoints, etc. Tried on multiple computers in chrome, edge, and firefox. It's such a crippling issue (maybe 1 out of every 10 attempts at creating a route succeeds) that I've moved to CalTopo for now.

The trouble, for me, seems to be surrounding creating a route when map features appear to be roads.  This is an image of my latest freeze-up.  I was able to follow the trail for a time by using waypoints close to one another to indicate that it was the trail that I wanted to follow, but in this area toward the top of my route, the trail wanders over a white line which I think Gaia is confused about, so it locks up.

Same problem, I am creating a route for a walk in Portland OR in a couple of weeks about 6 miles, have had about 20 freeze events so far in 45 min, excruciatingly annoying, and have changed browsers from Edge Dev to Chrome, have tried different length segments short mid long all fail sort of randomly, have begun saves every few segments but now the route shows 2x double the original length. This route is going from urban trail to street and up stairs etc but nothing seems to be consistent of the fail/freeze points, however trying a long segment seems to fail more often, using hike mode, using basic layers Gaia base map,
