    Hi there,

Thanks for posting. No, Gaia GPS doesn't have the ability to edit tracks outside of cropping the start/finish but you can export your track to a 3rd party program and edit it.

Traveling through canyons is especially challenging for a GPS - we do have filtering in place where we throw out errant points, but you can get this reflection effect in a canyon where you get a lot of errant points near each other, miles from the actual location, and it’s hard to make the jump back to good locations if you’re throwing out points too quickly.

Filtering out points too far apart is tough too since some people record their planes travels, and we don't want to throw out all those points because we think they're traveling too fast. I think currently we remove points that would require travel faster than 700mph.

OK, thanks. I use the free RunKeeper app and it easily allows editing of random points. Did I mention it is free? And points requiring travel >700mph are ignored. So your cutoff was made at just below the speed of sound? Am I missing something... this is a hiking application? Sorry for the sarcasm but I rarely buy apps and decided to spend money on this one... rather disappointed.

I'm sorry you're disappointed -- we don't want anyone to pay for something they're not happy with. Please send a note to support@gaiagps.com so we can send you a full refund.

While that’s a nice offer, better support would be to improve the product - which has many good features. I guess I don’t understand why most all tracking apps allow point editing and Gaia just says “sorry, can’t do it”. Why use essentially the speed of sound to ignore errant points? I put in a separate help request regarding being unable to close a simple loop route I was creating - as soon as I closed it the app rerouted the track in reverse. Gaia support said “it was an issue with the way Open Street created the map” but again - other free apps use OpenStreet maps and did not have this problem. Ian Gaia actively working to improve the code?
    Thanks for the replies.

    Hi,

You mentioned in one of the above comments that you can edit a start and finish in Gaia.  Please explain how to do that.  Here is why I need to do that.

I use it with nautical charts for sailboat racing.  I accidently started recording a race on a map/track that had old data on it.  It shows a totally separate line unconnected with the race.  Also, I didn't finish the track when I finished the race, so it shows me getting towed all the way back to the dock.

Help!  I would like to be able to post the track, but cannot util it is accurate.

    Thanks, Marianne

You can crop the start/finish of a track by following these steps on Android or iOS.
