If the GaiaGPS app or website were able to show the compass heading for each linear segment on a route, it would be incredibly useful. This would supplement the existing distance display for each route segment.
In many open-water situations where no hands are free (especially when sea kayaking) it is not feasible to use a mobile device to follow a previously created route. Instead, one must work from a notated series of headings and follow them using the boat's built-in analog compass while actively paddling or otherwise navigating. So it would be incredibly handy to be able to use Gaia to plot the route in advance and copy down the headings onto a waterproof medium for use on the water. Even better would be to be able to directly print a map containing the route annotated with the headings/distances of each segment.
Not everyone would find this useful, so presumably the display of headings would be controlled by a user-specific setting. Ideally there would be also an option to control magnetic vs. true headings, since on the water magnetic is standard, but even true alone would be worth it.
I note that the existing "heading from my current location" display for route points does not address this need, as one's current location isn't relevant at the time the trip is being planned.
I have marked this as a gaiagps.com request because the website is what I find easiest to use during the planning phase but it could just as well apply to the mobile apps.
