Editing An Imported GPX File

I have a GPX file provided to me by a friend. I would like to use the route as a basis for my trip but have found other roads/trails I want to explore as a part it. How do I edit the imported GPX file, moving/deleting data points along the route so that I can then save it as a new route based on my revisions?

  Import into Google My Maps, do whatever editing you need there, then export as kmz or kml and re-import back into Gaia.
