Samsung Tab A 8 Android 8.1.0 - GiaaGPS randomly stops working

Brand new tablet, GaiaGPS seems to work fine,, but randomly every so often (1/2 hr-1.5 hr) stops and pops back to the android home screen, where I have to restart the app.  This wouldn't be so bad, but sometimes I lose the track I've been recording...  Any ideas???
