Holy Grail: Turn-by-Turn Offline Navigation
I always start my hike with the track recording switched on and with the hike route already created in advance. With maps for the hiking area pre-downloaded for offline (no internet) use, I can track myself by occasionally looking at the map to ensure I am on the planned route.
With selfie-stick and other gadgets that we lug around these days to capture video/photos of our hike, it would be really useful if the phone could announce in advance of an upcoming turn, or which way to go when there is a fork in the trail. This means I won't have to flip out the phone from my pocket or wherever I have tucked it in to see which direction I have to head.
However, this would require a new turn-by-turn navigation feature, plus a much more robust announcement feature (see the related request in the link below). Currently, the only announcement feature available is for the distance traveled.
