Create Route MUST HAVE an undo option!
Creating a route is simple enough. The snap-to-trail feature doesn't always work correctly though. This ruins many routes and requires one to restart the route creation process from scratch! That is unbelievable. An option to delete the last trail segment or waypoint is an absolutely essential feature.

Hi Ashli,
A couple of things that undo would improve over trash can:
1. When creating a route you realize that 3, 5 10 points ago you took a wrong turn. In the current implementation you are forced to nav back to each point and trash can. Just undo x 3, 5, 10 would solve the problem.
2. Occasionally when moving the map I accidentally grab my route, which drags a point and then drops it somewhere else. Then the route re-maps. To resolve this you need to grab the point and carefully replace it on the map. Undo would be superior here.
I have also noticed that with Gaia there are a lot of "draw" issues (e.g. gray blocks), which really frustrate route-building. I do not have this issue with plotaroute.
Y'all also need:
1. allow users to edit already created routes and "save as" something else. I don't need to recreate the first 5 miles of every ride.
2. have a "automatically return to beginning" option so that I can easily do out-and-backs, or finish off lollipop routes.
3. have icons indicating direction of travel. Out and back loops are really difficult to map, because you can't tell what points are on the outbound/inbound direction.

I'm sorry you are having an issue creating a route.
You can delete a trail segment or waypoint by clicking on the point along the route and selecting the 'trash can' icon. If the Snap-to-Trail feature doesn't route along the trail you want, you can also drag and drop any section of the route to the preferred trail.
Feel free to click “Submit a Request” and include the coordinates of the trail if you are still having an issue creating the route. -
Hey Steve,
I'm sorry you haven't enjoyed your experience with the route builder so far.
We're definitely planning continuous improvement on the map page in general. Currently, we're embarked on a big under-the-hood update for this page that will vastly improve the overall experience (faster/better routes, maps, waypoint editing, and more).
I'm curious why you don't find deleting points to be a viable workaround to an undo button? This has worked well for me in the past, but perhaps there is a use-case I haven't considered.

When creating a new route, you have to first save the erroneous route before editing it to remove incorrect markers. Imagine having to submit a forum post here before you could use the backspace key on a typo. That makes no sense to me. It is non-intuitive to me to save known-bad info at all.
Now knowing that's how this site works is helpful, but it's certainly a poor design choice that I hope to see changed.

Thank you, everyone, for your feedback.
@steveh - I definitely understand your points, thank you for elaborating. I'm going to discuss these ideas with the team. After we're finished with the under-the-hood update that I mentioned above, it'll open the door to a lot of different improvements that we can make.
@kevinstrident I think I'm not quite sure what you mean. Like Robyn mentioned above, you can delete erroneous points on your route without needing to save. If you mean that you are having trouble starting a new route without saving an older one, I think the answer might be to cancel the route creation, then click 'Map' in the menu bar to reload the page.
