@rwyatt I believe we recently talked via email. I wanted to follow up with you here as well.

We don't have a free-hand route drawing mode, however, you can use the straight-line mode to manually plot a route or use the Snap-to-Trail mode to automatically snap a route along a trail.

Check out this article to learn about the different ways to create a route on the gaiagps.com.

To reposition the map while creating a route, click and hold anywhere on the map and then drag the map in any direction.

    Any ETA on this feature?

Was coming "pretty soon" three years ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/GaiaGPS/comments/3qb8a0/pen_support_for_marking_up_maps_on_ipad_pro/). Very high on my wish list.

    Thanks for posting.

This feature is still on the roadmap, however, I don't have an ETA at this time. Currently, we are upgrading the mapping framework used on gaiagps.com which once finish will lay the groundwork for adding new features such as this.

This would be a fabulous feature. All Trails has it and it works extremely well. The problem with "snap to route" on Gaia is that, if the route is not recognized by your map, Gaia won't snap it. I end up with a straight line. This happens even with the openroad maps you suggest in the support guide.

    Hi Gaia Folks,

    Related question:
You can't switch from Snap-to-Trail mode to freehand/manual draw one segment and then switch back to Snap-to-Trail mode for the rest of the route, correct?

For example, I was trying to plot a MTB route (using OpenCycle Map) and the trail I was following ended on the map, there's a little gap of no trail, and then a different trail picks up a hundred yards away.  I would like to freehand bridge the gap, but when I click the freehand mode icon (little bird), it changes all of my prior waypoints out of Snap-to-Trail mode and makes the route way less accurate.

So I think the current way to deal with this is that I am forced to draw the entirety of the route using freehand, correct?

If there was a way you could fix/add the ability to switch back and forth, I'd very much appreciate it.  I've run into this issue a number of times.  The Snap-to-Trail feature is one of my favorite things about Gaia.

    Thanks!
    Colin

    Hey Colin,

You can keep the route mode in Snap-to-Trail mode and be able to bridge the gap in the trail.

    • Place a route point at the end of the existing trail

    • Place your next route point just before where the next trail begins, making sure it does not touch the trail

    • Place a route point on the trail again and the route maker will start snapping to the path again
