Unfortunately, this Trails Illustrated map was missing from the original dataset National Geographic sent and is not yet available. Though, we are still working with National Geographic to bring the San Rafael Swell map to Gaia GPS. Click here for more information on the National Geographic Trails Illustrated series in Gaia GPS.

Do you have an update regarding the San Rafael Swell Trails Illustrated map? Thanks!

@chris.e.walden We are still working with NatGeo to make more areas NatGeo covers accessible within Gaia GPS. Unfortunately, I don't have a firm ETA at this time when they will be available.

Also missing are the 5 maps for the Adirondack Region of New York, maps 742, 743, 744, 745, and 746. This is my home region and was a big part of why I decided to get the premium version, hoping to see them included soon as well.

Edit: Nevermind, just saw there was copyright issues preventing these from being added on the other post. What a bummer, I hope things change in the future and these can be included.

Also missing is National Geographic Trails Illustrated Topographic Map  #213, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. I purchased the georeferenced version of this in Avenza and used it for backpacking more than a year ago. In the course of corresponding with Gaia about this, I have found that both Gaia and National Geographic are making misleading claims online about the level of availability of the Trails Illustrated Maps in Gaia.

My email correspondence is copied below in reverse chronological order:

    hello,

I am certainly not going to cancel for this year; I’ve already spent many hours downloading information into Gaia, and of course it doesn’t “weigh anything” to use both Gaia and Avenza on my phone.

However, you are welcome to refund my membership fee and let me retain my subscription for free.

More importantly, I think that both Gaia GPS and National Geographic need to change your promotional materials in order to avoid accusations of false advertising, and you need to live up to your claims and make all Trails Illustrated maps available to Premium users.

Your promotional information, including the information at the link you sent to me in your email copied below, implies very clearly that all Trails Illustrated series maps are available to Gaia Premium users. For example,

"We are able to offer National Geographic maps from their Trails Illustrated series. Maps that are not in that series are not included.”

I am sure you will agree that this sentence implies that maps that ARE in that series ARE included.

Despite this claim, there is a short list of National Geographic maps that are not provided, lower on the page.

    Notes
There are several maps that we plan to include, but aren't available yet:
    • Boston, MA
    • Hawaii
    • Alaska
    • Canadian maps
Some areas we are unlikely to include later, either due to licensing issues or a lack of digital availability:
    • Anywhere outside of US/Canada, as they are not part of the Trails Illustrated series
    • Adirondack Mountains
    • White Mountains"

Again, together with your claim that I quoted above, the presence of these lists implies that ALL National Geographic Trails Illustrated Maps for areas inside the US, except for Boston, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, the Adirondacks and the White Mountains, ARE available to Gaia Premium users.

Moreover, the National Geographic web site for the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Map (#213), https://www.natgeomaps.com/ti-213-glen-canyon-national-recreation-area, includes information about Gaia GPS and states:

"The Gaia GPS app delivers the COMPLETE* set of seamless Trails Illustrated maps and Topographic Map Guides to your mobile device

    *: My emphasis added

This claim is repeated at https://www.natgeomaps.com/apps, where National Geographic states

"Download our COMPLETE set of seamless Trails Illustrated maps and Topographic Map Guides to your mobile device with Gaia GPS …"

In summary, although the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Map (#213) IS a National Geographic Trails Illustrated Topographic Map, and is not in Boston, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, the Adirondacks or the White Mountains, it is NOT available to Gaia Premium users. Your promotional material and that provided by National Geographic are misleading and should be changed, and Gaia GPS and National Geographic should make all Trails Illustrated Maps available to Gaia Premium users.

When we started this conversation, I thought it would be a simple matter for you to direct me to the place where I can add the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Map (#213) in Gaia.

But … now I am starting to get angry.

I wonder what other maps are missing, despite your misleading claims?

    Sincerely,

    Peter

    Hi there,

    Sorry for the confusion.

The Nat Geo Trails Illustrated series offered by Gaia GPS is growing but we do not yet have access to the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Trail Map (#213).

Here is more information about Nat Geo maps in Gaia GPS: National Geographic Trails Illustrated Maps in Gaia GPS

Due to this missing coverage, please let me know if you would like to cancel and refund your membership and I can take care of that for you.

    thanks for your reply,

Unfortunately, I don’t understand your answer

the reason I asked in the first place is that there are two georeferenced Nat Geo Trails Illustrated maps for Lake Powell (Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, (1) North and (2) South)

I have them both on Avenza (just switching over from Avenza to Gaia this month)

I used them on my phone, in Avenza, a year ago, so they have been available for more than a year …

I will want/need the Glen Canyon NRA maps, downloaded on my phone, next March-April-May

this may drive me back to Avenza …

    Hi there,

Currently, the NatGeo Trails Illustrated layer does not include coverage for Lake Powell National Recreation Area. Sorry about that!

We are working with National Geographic to add more of the Trails Illustrated series to Gaia GPS; however, I don't have an ETA on when you could expect to see this area in the app.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Why doesn't the National Geographic Lake Powell National Recreation Area Trails Illustrated Map display on Gaia? All the other NGeo Maps for that general region display just fine.

Three years later, is the Glen Canyon Nat Geo Map available for display on Gaia yet?
