Sounds as if you had no data connection and or the map tiles of the area weren't downloaded beforehand.

Does the Samsung tablet need an attached antenna to get a data connection?

I have the USGS Topo maps & the Gaia topo. Do I need to down load others?

Is it possible to call Gaia and talk to somebody?

    Thanks,

    Dennis

Downloading an offline map while you have a WiFi or cellular connection will let you view the map layers for the area you plan to ride in. Check out this article for more information on downloading offline maps: Download Maps for Offline Use.

To view your offline maps in the main map: open Gaia GPS > Saved > select an offline map > Show on Map.

Once your offline maps have downloaded, you can follow these steps to verify that you will have map coverage when using Gaia GPS offline: Verify Offline Map Downloads

Also if your tablet has a GPS chip, then you will not need to attach an external GPS receiver.

I had this happen today right in front of me - the satellite map just disappeared. I cannot show on map. The storage says I have it!. Worked fine for a day. Nightmare for backpacking off trail!!!

I'm sorry there is an issue with the Satellite with Label map source.

I have created a bug report for this and apologize for the inconvenience.

In the meantime, you can view the Satellite map from MapBox and layer Gaia Topo on top to view trails.
