make route for out and back
I frequently create a route to help me figure out how many miles and elevation gain a hike is.
I have not been able to figure out how to do this for an out and back hike. The system seems to get confused, and it only seems to measure the data for one way, not the whole round trip. Is there a way to do this?

When creating an out and back route, I recommend placing the routepoints for the return section of your route just to the side of the route and then dragging and dropping the return routepoints onto the first section of the route.
I've also updated this article to include a short video on how this is done: Create a Route on GaiaGPS.com.

I'm somewhat new to Gaia GPS and am using the IOS version, but it seems to me you can turn on Tracking at the Start of the route and turn it off at the End. Then the finished Track gives you complete stats of what you just did.
Of course, you could also turn Tracking back on when you leave, which would give you complete stats of your return trip.

@Nathan, Why not just add a feature to make a route an out-and-back? Clicking it could literally just use all the same waypoints, but in reverse order. That way users only have to plot the "out" and toggle an option.

@SafetyCube
Thanks for posting and opening a feature request for your suggestion.
Improvements to route building are on the roadmap for Gaia GPS and I have shared your feedback with the rest of the team.0 -
Is there an update on this feature?

I'm a user and noticed it is much easier to make an out and back route, or otherwise overlapping routes

Any updates? Garmin connect can do this trivially.
