Direct import of custom MBTile maps for IOS users?
Hi,
1. Ashli wrote 3 months ago that only Android users (not IOS users) can directly import MBTile maps to Gaiagps. Are you planning to introduce direct import of MBTile maps for IOS users?
2. In another article Ashli mentioned that IOS users with a monthly subcription at Mapbox can import MBTile maps via cartoDB. Is there no other way of doing this? As a recreationalist it does not seem reasonable to pay MapBox $49.00 / month in order to upload a few custom-made maps / year. Is it true that only Premium Android users can import their custom MBTile maps directly into Gaiagps without paying Mapbox $49.00 / month?
3. I live in an area of Canada where good quality aerial photos are not available at recreationalist's prices. I could use some direction toward the simplest means of importing my custom maps. As a non-tech-type, the best method I've been able to parse together is as follows: I create custom png or tif maps in Photoshop, georeference and render them as MBTiles (using theTMS tile scheme) in MapTiler, automatically send them to Amazon S3 using the MapTiler API, and point my Gaiagps server account to my S3 bucket. Does completing this process for every custom map seem overly cumbersome? Is this process even possible with a Premium Membership as an IOS user? What map format(s) / tile schemes are compatible with Gaiagps? I remember Ashli stated that Gaiagps cannot import MBTiles. However, isn't it true that MBTiles follow the TMS tile scheme and can be either vector or raster?
Thank you for your technical assistance,
non-techy-recreationalist Dave

MBTiles
You can upload your MBTile file to MapBox Studio, which doesn't require a monthly membership.
Custom Map Sources
Gaia GPS supports TMS and WTMS map sources and your process sounds like the best option for importing your custom aerial imagery layer. Sorry for the inconvenience.
