Moving Root Folder from Default Internal Storage to /Storage/xxxx-xxx or /Storage/Emulated/0/ makes GAIA-GPS to work erratically, slow xown and eventually block completely...
Hello from Copenhagen...
I am experiencing this difficulties on a Samsung Galaxy Xcover4 / Android Nougat 7.0 / 64Gb SD card...
Problem solves itself by returning the Root Folder back to the Default Internal Storage...
Any suggestions how I can use the SD card as intended...?
Regards..., Alex

I was wanting to move my cached folder to my SD card. While searching for info on this I came across this post which is applicable to me as well.
After changing my storage to my SD card my Galaxy Tab A slowed down and is a bit erratic when using Gaia. Looks like I am not the only one. Assistance would be appreciated! Thanks. -

I'm sorry you are having an issue using Gaia GPS on your SD Card.
This sounds like a speed issue with your SD card. Do you have another SD card you can test?
If so, please follow these steps:- Move the root folder for Gaia GPS to internal storage
- Format the new SD card (this will delete all the existing files)
- Move the root folder for Gaia GPS to your SD card
- Download an offline map
Also, here is the SD card we recommend and use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IVPU786/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
