Ability to set size at which scale bar changes from miles to feet

I would find the scale bar more intuitive if it went down to 1/4 mile of 1/8 mile before switching to feet. Could this be made an option in settings? Also, I'd find short distances easier to visualize if they were in yards rather than feet.
